A Brief Window on the Helix Nebula NGC 7293

NGC7293 Helix Nebula photographed with a DWARF 3 smart telescope

From home, my view of the night sky is rather limited. From the balcony I only have a small window towards the southwest, with houses and trees cutting off most of the surrounding sky. That means many targets are only available for a short time before they disappear again.

NGC 7293, the Helix Nebula, is one of them.

It is already very low from here, so there isn’t much time between being able to start imaging and watching it disappear behind the rooftops. Over a few of those short windows, I managed to collect 30 minutes of data with the DWARF 3, using 15-second exposures.

The result isn’t particularly spectacular, and the low altitude certainly didn’t make things easier. But with such a restricted view from the balcony, longer sessions simply aren’t possible for many objects.

For the Helix Nebula, 30 minutes was what the rooftops allowed me this time.
