Solar eclipse from Oct. 25th 2022

I’m a tad bit late with posting recently because there are a lot of things going on. Still, I was able to catch some glimpses of the partial solar eclipse last week. The maximum coverage was about 82% in Russia. In Emden, Germany, the moon eclipsed about 30% of the sun at its maximum stage at 12:06 CEST. It started at 11:07 CEST and ended 13:07 CEST.

The day was a mix of sun and clouds so in the beginning I had to wait because clouds covered the sun for quite a while. Later I went out with my 3″ telescope and wondered why I couldn’t see anything. At one point I realized that my secondary mirror was hanging loose. So after some poor adjustments I could get it halfway aligned to see something.

The photos were taken shortly after the maximum coverage. Later it clouded up again and I wasn’t able to see more. In the photos you can also see some sunspots.

  • Rather blurry sunspots (24.04.2022)

Today I went outside with my telescope and checked the sunspots with a friend of mine. It was a bit difficult to take a photo though because I could just hold the camera onto the lens of the telescope. Additionally the sun was already standing low and it was rather windy. So it was hard to get the focus right and I was glad that I got at least some that were halfway okay.
