The only painting in the collection that shows a real nebula. The horsehead nebula (Barnard 22) is a small dark nebula in the constellation Orion. Behind it lies a large, active star-forming H II-region called IC 434. It is approximately 1,375 light-years away from Earth.

About the collection

The whole collection is called “The light within” because these vast clouds of molecular hydrogen are stellar nurseries. New stars are formed and the remainders of dust are blown away. Only then we are able to see the newformed star in visible light. The collection is a reminder that sometimes we might not be able to see the changes in us and others. But once the dust vanishes, a new light will emerge and shine bright.
